(Sadly Bill could not join us this week due to an act of dental work.)
So our rough plan is to create a distraction and then break in to get the prisoner. Since Des has a cargo drone we're thinking about dropping something dangerous on one of the other buildings the ghouls are living in to draw them away from the building we want in to.
After some discussion we decide on dumping some gasoline and starting a fire. Then when they start panicking I'll yell something about the kids being caught in the fire and hopefully confuse or distract the ghouls living in the building. We're guessing there are at least 20 of them in the various apartments.
The more we plan this the more uncomfortable I feel about the sheer number of enemies we could possibly encounter. Also, Des keeps trying to confuse Will about our assault plan. I'm getting a bit annoyed with this blatant manipulation. I may need to talk to him about this behavior later.
Des loads the gasoline in his cargo drone and gives a fire starting device to a smaller drone. Some of the ghouls see the drones coming, but Des brings them in fast and dumps the gasoline near the building. He drops the detonator right in the middle of the puddle and starts the fire before they can fully take in what's happening.
I sneak around behind the building in the corner of the block near our target. I yell something about fire and "the kids are trapped" in the voice of one of the ghouls. A bunch of ghouls take off from the nearby buildings heading towards the fire.
Will and I sprint for the "prison" building. Someone spots him and yells, but I'm already inside. I dash for the stairs to clear the basement, hoping that Will can get in before he hits serious trouble. I vaguely hear some screaming, but it's not Will, so I assume he's okay.
(Will has scared one of them away and made it into the building.)
As I reach the bottom landing I'm faced with four very surprised ghouls. One of them dives for cover. I hit a second one pretty well and he goes down. Will joins me on the landing as the three remaining ghouls launch themselves at me. I dodge out of the way of two of them but the third clips my shoulder. I hit one in the leg with another shot. He's still up but looks rather pissed.
Two of Des' drones wiz by. (They move into the pen area and start drilling through the chains holding the target.)
Will shoots the ghoul I clipped. I manage to put a bullet in the ghoul's head and he goes down.
(There are two armored ghouls heading towards our building. Des tries to get the drop on them but fails.)
After a struggle and some help from Will the ghouls are neutralized. I'm sporting a pretty nasty scratch that will need treatment ASAP, but for the moment we focus on getting the target out. I reassure her that we're here to get her out while Will finishes off her restraints with the cutters that Des gave him. She seems very level headed, a good quality in a security officer.
We break open some of the other cell doors and tell the prisoners this is their chance to run. This wasn't the plan, but they'll be good cover for us and I can't just leave them there to die.
We beat a hasty retreat, narrowly evading a more organized and armored force of ghouls. I catch sight of them rounding up the bulk of the prisoners as we flee the compound and jump into Des' car.
